You might be wondering: what's the difference between starting Strive as a 9th grader vs. an 11th grader? We know that every student's story, goals, and needs are different, and while we don't want to be too prescriptive, here is a broad overview of how we approach each grade differently.

We know 9th grade can be a little daunting, especially the first few months. It's okay! With your middle school days behind you, it's normal to feel a little overwhelmed. You might be a small fish in a big pond now, but don't worry, we'll teach you how to swim! During your 9th grade year, we want to nail down your time management and study skills to ultimately help you explore your varying interests.

We want you to be more deliberate about how and where you spend your time. We'll start delving deeper into your courses and extracurricular activities and how to grow your unique passions and interests in a constructive way. Sometimes this means researching and applying for summer programs or internships. Other times it means creating an independent project.

11th grade… you've worked so hard to get here, so you can't stop now! This is the last push before college applications! During this year, we'll work on balancing a rigorous workload and extracurricular activities, expanding your responsibilities and leadership skills, and figuring out a possible major and career path.
No matter what grade you are in, you don't have to face it alone! Our counselors will guide you step by step!
How Our Strive Program Works
In Strive, you'll meet once a month via Zoom one on one with your designated counselor to brainstorm, strategize and prioritize what to accomplish for the month. Between meetings, you and your counselor will communicate to check in on how you are doing. We're here 24/7 via email to support you!
Monthly Meetings
You and your assigned counselor will meet once a month via Zoom for 1 hour. During the meeting, you and your counselor will discuss in detail your goals, expectations, and any concerns you have currently and for the upcoming year.
Weekly Check-Ins
Immediately after your meeting, your counselor will set some objectives to accomplish before the next meeting. Your counselor will also check in with you via email to see how you are progressing, answer any questions, address any issues and concerns, and, most importantly, how you are doing.
Here to Help!
Even though you meet with your counselor monthly, your counselor is available 24/7 via email! At any time, you can ask questions or for feedback. Your counselor can help research internships, volunteering or summer programs, review applications, help brainstorm and edit essays, and more!
